Chew opens with 35-pounder

The annual rush of big pike has begun as Chew Valley opens its doors to predator fishermen.

With the lure and bait trails now underway on the Bristol Water venue, anglers have once again reported a string of 20 and 30 pounders with one of the best to be boated falling to Joseph Southern at a weight of 35lb 4oz, and top lure angler Chris Lowe slipped the net under a 33lb esox.

Over on Chew’s sister water Blagdon, a venue known historically to have produced fish well over 40lb, the grand predator opening proved to be a slight disappointment with the best pike so far weighing 32lb.
