Amazing hit of big Trent barbel!

The River Trent has produced one of the best hits of big barbel in years when John Mott took an amazing 31 doubles to 15lb 4oz.

The Lincs-based angler was fishing on the famous Collingham stretch of the waterway with test crab and krill boilies from Dave Mallin when he enjoyed a remarkable two-day session.

Having set up in a swim downstream in a swim away from the crowds, he baited on the edge of gravel around half-way across. And while the day-time proved slow, he cashed in as night fell as the fish fed in earnest.

In total he ended up with 36 barbel, adding a 14-pounder, three 13-pounders and 10 11-pounders to the 15lb 4oz specimen. What’s more, he even managed to catch a 21lb pike on a roach deadbait!
