The Brown trout – voted the UK’s No1 fish

The brown trout is the UK’s National Fish following a huge online survey.

Collecting 21% of the vote, it pipped the stickleback into second, with tench finishing third.

The results of the poll – conducted by underwater film-maker Jack Perks – were announced on BBC2’s Springwatch programme that regularly draws audiences of more than 3 million.

More than 5,000 people, both anglers and non-anglers alike, took part in the survey.
